About - Whirlpool Gold GI6FARXX[Q]

The Whirlpool Gold GI6FARXX[Q] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the Gold GI6FARXX[Q] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
What a disaster- compressor broke, service guy can't get replacement part for a week (although I called Whirlpool and they managed to get one sooner so kudos to them) Do NOT buy from HH (rhymes with Pegg) as my service man said that Lowe's would have replaced same day - HH (rhymes with Pegg) refused to do anything to help and said my issue was with Whirlpool

My first refrigerator of this model died after 2 weeks at home. I've had this second one exactly one month and 2 days. The ice is melting on the floor. I WILL NOT be purchasing another.

Comment:
Replaced this fridge after our last one of 11 years went. Picked it because it was one of only 3 in the SS option that would fit below our cabinets. It looks nice but the inside is very poorly designed. The water filter is a long obstruction right in the middle of the top right shelf, bad placement, it interferes with placing large objects there. There is NO room for tall items. If you have a liter bottle of something or a bottle of wine you want to keep there or chill fast forget it. you have to remove the shelf that holds the eggs to have any space at all to store a tall object. Ice??? what ice? this is the worst ice maker I have ever had. If you are entertaining you better go out and buy ice. We made one batch of frozen margaritas and there was no ice left of other drinks....for at least 24 hours. absolutely horrible. But wait theres more. Its noisy. I dont know what all the noise is but it makes all kinds of operating noises throughout the day. I could say more things about the the construction of the doors and how you have to open both doors sometimes to get to an item but I think I have said enough about this product. I can live with the noises it makes but all things considered, skip this model if you can!
How long have you owned it:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
