About - Whirlpool Gold GI6FARXX[Q]

The Whirlpool Gold GI6FARXX[Q] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the Gold GI6FARXX[Q] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
our refrigarator of this model. has started leaking water internally. which is pooling in the freezer floor pan below. and we are having to disassemble the wire frame freezer shelf. ever so often to go in and chip out the accumulating ice.which will begin to melt and drain out in the floor when it gets too thick and built up.and our first complaint was the water dispenser.the going joke in our house is if we had 99 squirrels lined up to pee in our glass they could fill it up faster than the super slow trickle of water just shy of dripping out of the tiny tap.and gnats seem to be attracted to the nozzle.we often find them in our glass because they lodge them selves in the nozzle.i dont know if they sleep there or go there to die LoL.

Comment:
When I was looking for a new refrigerator I did go online to check out reviews and then on to shopping. I really like the design and the lighting on this Whirlpool although I wasnt looking for an exterior ice/water dispenser....I went with one anyway...bad choice. I love eveything else but this feature. Very bad design...the ice goes all over and keeps coming out after dispensed, the water is the same way. Not to mention the crushed ice feature, horrible. I get more water/ice on my floor then in my glass :^(

Comment:
I owned this refrigerator for less than 24 months when the evaporator started leaking and the compressor started burning hot. Paid around $1500 for it and the repairs would have been over $1000! What a huge disappointment!
