About - Whirlpool Gold GX2FHDXV[Q]

The Whirlpool Gold GX2FHDXV[Q] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the Gold GX2FHDXV[Q] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
A few weeks after its purchase the freezer began to operate erratically. It stops freezing for many hours to one day and then starts again. The food gets soft and spoiled, the ice melts and so on.I had to discard lots of spoiled food and now cannot use it at all for fear of loosing more food.<br />The technicians who cheked it every time cannot do anything because it does work when they show up and the manufacturer refuses to replace it.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
We have a gurgle noise when the fridge is running. It sounds like a duck is loose in back. One tech suggested a silence kit; a second tech from A&E said the noise is normal, read the book. In 30 years of buying appliances, this is the loudest normal sound I ever heard and I loose hearing every year.

More than six months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
