Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's
our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on bottom freezer refrigerator
models like the Gold GX5FHDXV[ ].
Claimed capacity (cu. ft.):
Claimed capacity is the manufacturer's estimate of the volume, in cubic feet, of interior space.
French-door style:
French door models are bottom-freezer refrigerators whose upper compartments have two narrow doors that open similarly to the doors of a side-by-side refrigerator. These narrower doors use less space in front of the refrigerator when opened, and allow access to either or both sides of the full-width fresh-food compartment. Typically more expensive, French-door models are usually 36 inches wide, though some newer models are 33 inches wide.
Water dispenser:
It is normally located in the fresh food compartment.

Stainless/SS-look option Stainless steel is stylish but it shows fingerprints. Another option: a vinyl-covered metal finish that gives you a stainless-steel look but resists smudging.
We bought this refrigerator about 8 months ago. It has been great; holds the temperature well and is quiet. The only thing I miss are interior LED lights, but that's just being picky.

Comment:
We purchased a new Whirlpool Refrigerator, model GX5FHDXVB03 to replace our 20+year old model. We had several other older Whirlpool appliances and decided to stick with the company as these models lasted quite well over the years. Even Consumer Reports highly recommended this new refrigerator. We were wrong.... At less than 3 years old, our new Whirlpool refrigerator stopped freezing food. A service technician verified that the coils were blocked and needed to be replaced. Being an extensive repair, the estimated repair costs were well over $800 and wouldn't guarantee fixing the issue. We contacted Whirlpool's customer service and explained the situation. Whirlpool would not stand by their product, offer any support, or even cared when we stated that this incident has turned us to look at other brands. I understand Whirlpool's refrigerator warranties are now set to 1 year time periods, however, it is irksome and completely unacceptable for a major expensive home appliance to have such an epic failure at such a short lifespan.

This speaks a lot to Whirlpools current build quality. A refrigerator should not be a disposable item. Whirlpool does not stand behind their product quality and their lack of customer support is utterly unacceptable.

Comment:
A sheet of ice forms on the bottom of the freezer, which requires defrosting every few weeks. Water will eventually leak on to your floors.
