About - Whirlpool Gold GZ25FSRXY[Y]

The Whirlpool Gold GZ25FSRXY[Y] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the Gold GZ25FSRXY[Y] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
This refrigerator is large, roomy, and well-lit. BUT, if you are a fan of fresh vegies that might be more than 3 inches high, this icebox is NOT for you! Both the crisper AND the deli drawer have 3 inch height limits, making one think it's designed for folks who only buy vegies-in-a-bag.
Aside from that glaring defect, it's a bit noisy and the ice-maker is slow.

Comment:
I'm obsessed with this fridge! I love the measured filled and the ease to go between units. Our tap water is gross, but the filtered water out of this is great. Took me a while to figure out which configuration I wanted the shelves, but now I've got it, it fits everything and because the main fridge is eye level, there's no more items getting lost in the bottom/back like a regular fridge and creating science experiments. The 2nd drawer is perfect for veggies and kids snack items for easier access for them. As for the freezer, it's bigger than it looks and the way the bottom and rack are divided, it helps keep items organized.

We're not huge ice users, but I can see why big ice users can get miffed. I was out of ice pretty quickly for the first party we threw and it does take a while for make (the sister-in-law who has a similar GE and has the same problem, suggested filling gallon ziplocks a day or 2 before). Also, if I could tweek one thing, I'd make the door open alarm louder and for the other doors other than the main fridge doors.

All and all, love it and it looks slick in my kitchen.

Totally agree with Chef M.'s review. We have 3 adults and 3 children in my house and this fridge does the job in every way. Ice maker and water work great and are very convenient. The door ajar alarm is a life saver. Wondering why it doesn't have a higher rating, because its perfect for us and the CR panel had no negative comments on it. It is also made in the USA!
