About - KitchenAid KSSS36QT[X]

The KitchenAid KSSS36QT[X] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, built in refrigerator models like the KSSS36QT[X] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two refrigerators with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
The refrigerator died. Kitchenaid doesn't have parts for it. They say they don't make them anymore. I have to wait 4-6 weeks for them to decide what they are going to do, if anything, for me. In the meantime, no refrigerator.

6 years old and the control board breaks. Kitchen Aid tells me that the repair parts are no-longer made or available. I can't believe I have to throw out this product I paid $7K for, after such a short time. Never buy another kitchen Aid/Whirlpool product again.

6yr Old Needs Cntrl Board

Comment:
6yr old fridge. Needed new fan, needed rebuilt control board ($800 and process of 4 months) but still doesn't work properly. Reads over temperature and water display panel doesn't work. They regretfully denied my request to cover the service calls needed to remove, replace, and ship the board for rebuilding (approx $800) control board a second time. The best they will do is rebate you 25% on a new replacement fridge. So basically plan for a new fridge every 6 years. I will not purchase a Whirlpool product again.
