About - Liebherr CS2060

The Liebherr CS2060 is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, built in refrigerator models like the CS2060 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two refrigerators with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Pros - I bought this refrigerator seven months ago because it was a good looking fridge at a great price compared to other built-in products. It has three drawers and a nice configuration of adjustable shelves. I like that it has two freezer compartments and the ice maker worked well.

Cons - Unfortunately, the refrigeration section of the unit stopped working within 6 months. The manufacturers customer service was slow to respond and their trained service provider had very little knowledge of how to service this unit. After two service calls and two attempted repairs (over the course of many weeks), it still wasn't cooling. Finally, the refrigerator was replaced with a new one. I was relieved to get a new unit installed. However, new unit's compressor is noticeably louder than the old unit. The manufacturer tells me that is how the new compressors for this unit sound. I find that hard to believe.

My recommendation - steer clear of this refrigerator. You may pay more for a higher end built-in, but you get what you pay for.

Sleek Design
An attractive design both visually and with use of space. Nice counter depth unit. The only free-standing unit I found with two freezer drawers (rather than a single very deep drawer) which allows easy access/organization to the freezer.
There are several design and installation problems:
-The quality of the stainless steel sheetmvetal is average - seems to be a little flimsy and very hard to clean (compared to my other stainless appliances)
-LED interior lighting is very dim
-The freezer drawers are not very solid - the wobble left to right when you open it.
-The refrigerator door seems very light. No problems with closing - but it doesn't seem very solid. It definitely doesn't have that solid thud that you expect from German engineering.
-The ice maker is very finicky - needed to change the microprocessor immediately.
-Installation manual is very opaque - need more clear instructions.
-Very difficult to arrange service on a brand new unit. Need to get written approval from Liebherr before my retailer would service. This wasn't the case with the other appliance brands I bought at the same time (which also needed servicing).
Overall, this is a good, but not great option. I bought it because it provided two freezer drawers and the promise of solid German quality. In retrospect, I should have purchased the Sub-Zero integrated unit instead, for an extra $1,500.

We had a 20 year old sub-zero refrigerator that was installed in a corner (1 inch from the wall by the hinge). Most modern fridges will not work in such a spot, so we had to get a high end fridge. The Liebherr is the cheapest of that very very expensive lot. It looks very good, has good lighting, and has handy freezer drawers. That said, if we could have bought a more reasonable fridge, I would have done it. It is about 6 inches taller than the sub-zero inside, so is quite high. OK for me, but for those under 5'6 a step stool may be needed to get to the top shelf.
