About - Samsung RF261BEAE[SR]

The Samsung RF261BEAE[SR] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, french-door refrigerator models like the RF261BEAE[SR] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

This refrigerator is huge. For example we can put two family size pizzas side by side in it without them overlapping or touching the doors. The freezer is also quite large with lots of space even with the ice maker in the freezer.

My wife and I were given our choice of which model of stove and refrigerator to purchase when her and I were married. When we went to make the purchase we thought that we had measured our space carefully, however we did not measure diagonally and now the refrigerator fit is so tight that we cannot level the frige. Due to this the moisture barrier between the two doors broke. We had this under warranty and the person who replaced the part gave us the part number so that if this breaks again easily replace this ourselves. For the record I consider myself to be mechanically inept and this, if it happens again, will be an easy fix. This issue was our fault entirely due to torsion wearing down the part due to poor measuring.

I love the style of my new refrigerator for my family of 3-4. There is ample space as we do not have the ice maker in the door, which I am so glad we did not get as they would take up refrigerator space. There really isn't a lot of room for canned beverages, but we have decided to use the pantry drawer for those items and it works out quite nicely and can be divided to still store meats and cheeses. I do like the shelf that the front half slides back to accomodate tall items, although I wish there were more thatn one or another place for those tall items. Maybe it will just take time for me to figure out where I want to put everything. Because we do not have the ice maker in the door, those shelves are nice and roomy also. I do like the ice maker in the freezer as we have never had one and the fact that you can turn it off when the bin is full. This refrigerator has a couple quirky noises, but they are quiet, so you get used to them quickly.
I do wish however that the doors were textured, as I find myself wiping off hand/finger prints from men that can't seem to find the long handles to close the doors. I also love the black color in my new kitchen with charcoal gray stained cabinets. I am not into stainless steel and this was a stylish option. I did quite a bit a research on this refrigerator and am very happy with my choice.

We purchased our refrigerator in April of 2014 and I'm happy to report that we haven't had any of the problems mentioned by others. Not sure if this is a fluke or if I should just be waiting for the hammer to drop.

There is a fairly loud hmunnnnnng-whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir noise that happens after you've had the door open for a while (say to load up from a Costco trip) and the machine starts to cool down. But you can barely hear this over the TV in the other room when it does happen, and it doesn't happen frequently. Otherwise no issues to report.

We love that it's large, has great storage capacity, the pull out freezer drawer is easier for my disabled mother to get into than a top freezer and seems to hold more than a side by side. We have the all black model, and I do find that it's hard to keep hand prints off of it, but a simple wipe down once a week remedies that.
