About - Samsung RF263BEAE[SR]

The Samsung RF263BEAE[SR] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, french-door refrigerator models like the RF263BEAE[SR] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Worked great for 16 months. Great features and kept both compartments at the selected temperatures. We loved this refrigerator until the frosting problems started. Frost would form around the fan and upper section of the refrigerator section back panel. The fan would hit this frost and make a terrible noise. After a short while the fan would stop and the temperature would not be maintained. We had three service calls. They replaced a circuit board, the fan assembly twice, sealed all openings, added a foam gasket around cover, and a few other things. Each of these service calls were about a month apart. Thirty days after the 3rd service call it frosted up again. We had an extended warranty. The warranty companty, not Samsung, offered us a credit to purchase a new fridge. We took their offfer, and purchased anothe brand.

Comment:
Within the first year, the side rails that hold the freezer drawer failed. The ball bearings all came out and the rails had to be replaced. At least that repair was under warranty. Now, it is two years later and one of the rails failed AGAIN. This time, I will have to pay to have them replaced, and they cost $75 each directly from Samsung, but I have no idea what the authorized repair outlet is going to charge me for them. This is bad. I am so sorry I bought this fridge.

Comment:
The icemaker does not dispense cubed ice at all and is not very efficient dispensing any ice. After the third repair call, the repair person spoke to an engineer at Samsung who told him if we were getting even 30/70 cubed/crushed ice, it was normal, that this model would not dispense cubed ice only. My question then is, why have cubed ice as an option?! Choosing cubed ice results in the auger turning and turning and finally dispensing a mangled mixture of partial cubes, hunks and slivers.
