About - Samsung RF31FMESBSR

The Samsung RF31FMESBSR is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, french-door refrigerator models like the RF31FMESBSR are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Big and Wonderful
Deli Compartment
Freezer Tray
Best Uses
We have 3 refrigerators because the first two were so hard to use. This model solved all the problems we've had with the others. It holds lots of items and has a deep design that permits leaving space around them so they are not impossible to locate.
The deli drawer is the epitome of convenience. stuff is immediately visible and available.

Negatives: periodic soft compressor noise. Not horrible, but surprising in view of how quiet the unit is normally. Ice cubes are irregular chunks, aesthetically disappointing but fully functional. The freezer tray has to be pushed back an inch to store frozen juice containers on the built-in shelf for them. Again a surprising detail in view of how well everything else is ergonomically efficient.

The Sodastream unit is outstanding and may be hard to find these days. The only drawback is that it takes some 20 minutes or so to recharge the container. Level 3 effervescence is certainly adequate. The unit is in an area that would normally be dead space and is delightfully convenient to use.

The lighting is first rate and the top lights do not take up lots of space or get in the way of food storage. Samsung did a great job on this model.

Storage trays on the door are capacious and hold items in place nicely.

After years of dissatisfaction, we have finally found a refrigerator that we can live with. As for those who have had problems, I sympathize but have not had anything to complain about. I had an ice maker failure, or so I thought. In reality, I managed to switch off the ice maker somehow and discovered a Samsung online tutorial that guided me to a quick solution. For me, a great product.

We bought this product in August of 2013 and will soon have our 4th service call. I don't normally buy extended service contracts but thankfully buy one for this piece of junk!! The icemaker is a very poor design and although it has been replaced twice still is noisy and works poorly.

Bad Ice Maker
Ice Maker Leaks Water
Ice Maker- No Cubed Ice
Water Leaks Flex-zone
Best Uses
nothing but problems, Ice maker never makes cubed ice, there is water leaking in the middle flex zone drawer. Everything that we have read is that Samsung has not addressed the problem and you once your warranty is up your are out of luck. The last refrigerator we had lasted over ten years and no problems. This refrigerator cost a small fortune and problems since day one. Don't buy the Samsung!!
