About - KitchenAid KSF26C6X[YY]

The KitchenAid KSF26C6X[YY] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, side by side refrigerator models like the KSF26C6X[YY] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two refrigerators with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
The ice maker design concept is poor. The ice hardens and blocks the water coming in to make more ice, hence it leaks! I'm in my 70's and without a doubt this is the worst refrigerator my wife & I have ever owned since we were married. Three others on our street have the same model and all have had the same issues. Shame on Whirlpool for not having a recall on this model. They have lost four customers for life.

Comment:
I use this fridge for normal use and have none of the problems others have listed. I find the space extremely useful, would never buy a bottom freezer as they are a pain to use compared to this side by side. Lots of people don't like side by sides but if they tried this unit which has useful width on both sides, especially the freezer, unlike smaller, narrower units I think their complaints would disappear. So the ice makes a little noise when it falls into the bin, or you may hear a little, brief noise when the water line has to fill. What unit doesn't? These are very brief and have to be expected if you want these features. It does not spit out ice like other makes owned by others I know. The measured fill is a nice feature and the space and flexibility are great.

Find A Replacement
Comment:
Jetson Appliances, which is local retailer, recommended this refrigerator to me as part of a kitchen remodel. Beginning with the installation by Jetson's, the door seals came off. A new freezer door had to be replaced. Now I have an led light that needs to be replaced. I tried to have the refrigerator replaced by the retailer, but they refused. Kitchenaid would not replace the lemon they manufactured and Jetson's Appliances would not assist me in replacing the poorly made refrigerator.<br />I would never again buy a product from Kitchenaid or Jetson's Appliances.
