About - Whirlpool WRS325FDAM

The Whirlpool WRS325FDAM is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, side by side refrigerator models like the WRS325FDAM are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two refrigerators with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
The shelf layout is extremely poor; I am single and have a HARD time figuring out where to put items. I attempted to cook Thanksgiving & Christmas (usually it is cold outside) but this year it was in the 80's and I was SO LIMITED I had to get a cooler with ice because I could not get all the prep work in small Tupperware, Turkey, Ham and just NECESSARY items in the refrigerator/freezer - LOUSY - would never own one - thank God it is in a rental - Brand New when I moved in 6 mos. ago and I know now NEVER to buy this type EVER - the ice dispenser has a forced angle in it and ice shoots out unless you have a wide mouth cup to protect; water tray always filling up with water and growing mold - had to remove tray and lay cloth in there and replace daily - STAY AWAY!

Comment:
This model was provided by our builder who chooses standard Whirlpool appliances. I have been disappointed since the beginning. First of all, unless you want a shower of ice sprayed at you and your floor, you can just avoid the crushed ice dispenser. The cubed ice also spits out the edges. Now, just 6 weeks later, the cubed ice dispenser does not work at all and only crushed ice (yikes!) comes out of both the cubed and crushed dispensers. As for the water dispenser, the tube juts out so far that if you do not have a larger glass, the water just comes out in front of the glass and down the freezer door onto the floor. The refrigerator side and shelves are acceptable. There should be one more shelf on the freezer side so you can have more storage instead of just wide open space. I wish I knew how bad it would be up front because I would have requested a better model and paid for the upgrade.

Comment:
I have owned 4 Whirlpool fridge/freezers before. One was a side-by-side and an excellent fridge. Bought this one for our big kitchen renovation.

This fridge has been a great disappointment.
1. Ice dispenser outlet is poorly designed - ice get shot all over the place.
2. Shelves are very thin/flimsy and does not slide smoothly. Cracked one within the first 6 months of use due to these problems.
3. No proper insolation between fridge and freezer compartments so when the icemaker is turned off - the fruit and veggies in the fridge get frozen solid.
(Contacted Wirlpool's customer service about this - their answer to the problem was not to turn the icemaker off.)
4.Water feed pipe for ice maker was installed incorrectly by the manufacturer. Pipe was made to short and then stretched to fit which caused it to crack and leak.
