About - Whirlpool WRS325FDAM

The Whirlpool WRS325FDAM is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, side by side refrigerator models like the WRS325FDAM are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two refrigerators with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
I bought a refrigerator that broke in the first few days of ownership. Whirlpool would not replace as they indicated they guarantee the parts but not the refrigerator for the first year. The first time it was fixed, it took two weeks and the guy arrived at 7:30 pm, 3 hours after the end of the time window I had been given. The second time, it was fixed more quickly but it broke down again a couple of months later. Both times it was the compressor. Finally, the third time Whirlpool kindly agreed to replace but the delivery person wouldn't install because I have copper pipe and because he said my water shut off valve couldn't be under my sink (which is about 5 feet from the fridge). (The delivery was also much later than expected.) Had a plumber come in who recommended I not get rid of my copper pipe and told me that many people have shut off valves under their sinks. Second whirlpool contractor delivered and installed but I had to sign a statement taking responsibility for he copper pipe. I lost five work days waiting for Whirlpool repair and delivery folks and lots of food because of Whirlpool's poor customer service policies. Their telephone customer service people are wonderful (both patient and helpful) but the product is substandard and customer service policies are disappointing. Also, they do not service themselves but have sub-contractors.

Comment:
We have had this fridge for almost 12 months. Have had to replace the entire icemaker twice. In general this fridge is very slow to make ice. Then eventually it either stops making ice altogether or the ice dispenser gets stuck on crushed ice (and not the good kind of crushed ice). This fridge's version of crushed ice obliterates the ice cubes so that it goes all over the place, most of it outside of your cup. I hate to imagine what will happen when the warranty expires. I regret ever purchasing this fridge.

Comment:
I too had the problem where the middle drawer cracked down the middle after it was bumped by the shutting door. After less than a month of ownership. I have owned many refrigerators and never had anything like this happen. It's either a terrible design or a very cheap and feeble drawer. I know the drawer SHOULD be closed before closing the door. But it's no an unusual situation to accidentally close the door when the drawer isn't completely closed. A proper design would take that into account.
