Comment:
This has been a great toaster oven except for the noisy fan when the convection was running. Sounded like a cheap $39.95 Black & Decker. After a little over 2 years it just died. For the high cost of this unit this is unacceptable! No more of this brand for me.

So I get a Breville BOV800XL as a housewarming gift 18 months ago, I am quite pleased with the oven till it just decided to go blank, dead, no sign of life. No lights turn on. It just stopped working. I'm sure there's something defective with the onboard hardware, could be from manufacturer of the controller or just a bad design. I'm guessing it's the latter.
So I research on the internet, I see that A LOT of people have been having this issue - usually a company with the reputation of producing high quality products would want to fix an issue that's affecting most of their customers. However, that does not seem to be the case with Breville.
They know this issue exists, going so far to even put out a video making it seem like the problem has more to do with the fact that some clueless consumer forgot to plug it in. Forget how patronizing this is, the absolute worst comes after you speak to one of their representatives.
They offer you a 20% discount for the purchase of a new Breville toaster oven, a toaster oven that usually sells for $250. So you get $50 off a new one – a new Breville toaster that might have an even shorter shelf life than the one you just replaced. Or you can send in your defective product to Brevlile, and for the cost of shipping it to them, and then they ship you back a refurbished one (after validating it's not repairable, my guess it is not), you'll pay $119 for that entire experience.
Today Breville lost a customer that used to recommend their products. Consumer reports needs to look at the longevity of some of these products, too.

Great oven; performance, construction, ease of operation. After about 2 years it died, no display, nothing. For the money I would expect it to last MUCH longer.
