WOW! 13 reviews so far and nothing but single stars.

I was looking for a long slot toaster to replace an old standard slot toaster that was dying. I was tired of having to cut long slices in half (such as from a boule loaf) or toast them twice (toast; flip 180 degrees; toast again), and I didn't want to spend $100+ on one of the trendy brands. I checked the CR ratings and decided on the T-Fal TL6802002 (despite the dismal customer reviews).

This is an excellent toaster. With the digital indicator set at 5, whole wheat sandwich bread comes out a perfect mahogany brown all over (YUM!).

I also appreciate the countdown indicator, the end-of-cycle beep, the tray lift for small pieces, and the bagel setting. There are also Defrost and Reheat buttons, but I haven't had a need to use those yet.

This toaster has been used daily since 2/13 with no issues so far. My only complaint is a subjective one: it's kinda ugly (just a black box with rounded corners).

Comment:
I am looking for a long slot toaster to handle the wider pan breads at a reasonable price. This toaster never did work right. One side of the bread was always more toasted then the other. On the low settings this left one side barely toasted and on the higher settings one side was burned. Judging from remarks here and elsewhere, there seems to be a serious quality control issue with this product. You either luck out and get a good toaster or else you get a piece of junk. I got a piece of junk.

Comment:
I bought one and it burnt at least the inner edge on every setting. There was not an edible piece out of all of them I tried. Sent it back thinking maybe that particular toaster was a dud. Second one was worse.
