The LG DLE4870W is part of the clothes dryer
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric dryer
models like the DLE4870W are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 6 to 8.0 cu. ft.
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.
About This Brand
This company is known for its TrueSteam dryers and the designer colors available for its models. Some models have a steam generator intended to eliminate wrinkles. Prices for LG dryers range from $700 to $1,200.
Stainless-steel drum A stainless-steel drum is likely to resist damage better than plastic and painted metal drums.
Porcelain top A porcelain top resists scratching better than a painted one but generally adds to a dryer's cost. Painted tops, far more common, are often quite durable with normal use.
Drying rack The rack attaches inside the drum to keep items such as sneakers or sweaters from tumbling.
Custom programs This feature allows you to save your favorite settings.
Steam option Generally, a water hook-up is required with this feature. In this cycle, a small amount of water is sprayed into the drum while tumbling with heat. It helps to reduce wrinkles and odors, but is intended only for a few garments at a time.
The price seemed right, it's easy to use and has a lot of different use modes but the door switch fails in less than 2 years and it's a flat fee of $200 to replace it. 25% of the cost of the unit for a door switch repair. I shudder to think what's going to happen next. I've had $300 Maytags and Kenmores that ran for years without problems. Last LG product for me. I am single so this thing doesn't get used that often.

Love this dryer!
Easy To Use
Sheets & Mattress Covers
We bought this washer / dryer as a pair and love them both! The clothes come out of the washer feeling damp and takes less energy to dry the clothes. We bought these on sale at Lowes for $599 each!

We haven't noticed any of the other issues that other users have experienced. The average drying time is 47 minutes. There is a countdown timer on the machine and it plays a jingle when finished. The machine is also super quiet. We can't hear or feel any floor vibrations when this dryer is in use.

There are great drying options and features on this dryer. Read the manual first, it'll help.

It appears only users with bad experiences write reviews on here. It was frustrating trying to find the right washer/dryer with good reviews. We took a chance and hit a home run. We love these machines and it has made doing laundry fun!

Repairs Don't Last Long
I use this product for ordinary laundry for 2 people. We never use dryer strips or fabric softeners which can build up on the moisture sensors. Around the time the warranty expired it just wouldn't dry the clothes any more. We made sure the vent and duct to the outside was clear, then called for service. The repair man replaced the thermostat and moisture sensors, AND told us two things (1) we were probably putting in too large or too small loads; (2) the moisture sensors really don't work anyway so just use time dry instead. This is ridiculous, and it's a really poor product.
