The Maytag Maxima XL MED8000AG is part of the clothes dryer
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric dryer
models like the Maxima XL MED8000AG are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 6 to 8.0 cu. ft.
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.
About This Brand
This Whirlpool-owned brand is positioned as a durable brand but priced a bit lower than Whirlpool-branded products. The company makes electric and gas products and also sells models that are stackable with the washer. Prices for Maytag dryers range from $350 to $900.
Stainless-steel drum A stainless-steel drum is likely to resist damage better than plastic and painted metal drums.
Porcelain top A porcelain top resists scratching better than a painted one but generally adds to a dryer's cost. Painted tops, far more common, are often quite durable with normal use.
Drying rack The rack attaches inside the drum to keep items such as sneakers or sweaters from tumbling.
Custom programs This feature allows you to save your favorite settings.
Steam option Generally, a water hook-up is required with this feature. In this cycle, a small amount of water is sprayed into the drum while tumbling with heat. It helps to reduce wrinkles and odors, but is intended only for a few garments at a time.
Just an update on my first review.

It's been almost 5 weeks now and no machine yet.
How long have you owned it:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

DOA/JUNK - DO NOT BUY IT
We bought this piece of junk from Ashley.

Dryer arrived defective. This model is supposed to be a top of the line Maytag.

We hired a professional to install washer and dryer. After turning the dryer on, he immediately instructed us to call Ashley's customer services and not try to use it. We haven't used it even once.

After waiting a few days for a technician, and some back and forth with Ashley, we were told that the dryer needs to be replaced, and that the new one will take from 2 to 3 weeks to arrive.

As an option they offered us a store credit, but only for the dryer, and Ashley only sells Whirlpool appliances.

A full month without a dryer, for a family of 4, with 2 kids and 2 working parents.

Thank you very much Ashley and Maytag/Whirlpool for that.

DO NOT BUY IT.

I suspect that even if you get a working one and it ever stops working, it will take a very long time to get it fixed.

DO NOT BUY IT.
