About - Whirlpool Duet WED94HEX[W]

The Whirlpool Duet WED94HEX[W] is part of the clothes dryer test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric dryer models like the Duet WED94HEX[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Drying performance:
This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.

Capacity:
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 6 to 8.0 cu. ft.

Convenience:
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.

Comment:
I loved this dryer with the pedestal, for 7 years. Then, the control panel started to die. We have to use the time dry setting for now. What a major disappointment, I thought this dryer would last much longer.

Comment:
With four adults in the house the dryer gets used at least every other day. And it does a great job, when it works. Since installation several months ago I've had intermittent power failure of the unit. It just stops for no reason without tripping the breaker. I had an electrician out to check the house wiring, outlet, and breaker in my three year old home and he found no electrical line problems. Sometimes the dryer will give the PF code (Power Failure) when it shuts down, sometimes nothing. Pulling out the plug or disconnecting the power at the breaker, waiting 30 seconds, then reconnecting seems to fix the issue for a load or two. I'm on my third service call for the issue. But again, when the dryer works, its great. Excellent drying time, great controls, nice steam option, quiet, and nice chime notification when the load is either nearly done, or completely done. I'll update this review if the unit ever gets repaired.
