About - Whirlpool Duet WEL98HEBU

The Whirlpool Duet WEL98HEBU is part of the clothes dryer test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric dryer models like the Duet WEL98HEBU are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Drying performance:
This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.

Capacity:
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 6 to 8.0 cu. ft.

Convenience:
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.

Comment:
We specifically ordered this model because of it's smart appliance features (internet connectivity, text and/or e-mail alerts when the cycle is complete, etc.). Unfortunately, Whirlpool seems to have pushed this product out the door before it was ready.

The Dryer worked great for about a month, then lost wireless connectivity. After lots of troubleshooting to make sure it wasn't our network, we called Whirlpool to set up a service call, which they couldn't schedule for a week. Then, the day before the service call is scheduled, the rep calls me and says, I'll be glad to come out there and look at it, but I have no idea how that thing works. I've never even seen it before. I ask him to come on anyway, and after he gets there the next day, he told me he had contacted his regional supervisor about the dryer model, and was told, I didn't even know those were on sale yet.

Needless to say, he couldn't do anything helpful to repair the wireless connectivity problem. So, we carry on without internet connectivity for another 3 weeks, and then the dryer simply goes dark. Won't turn on at all... no power. We call Whirlpool again to set up a service call, and they can't schedule anything for two full weeks! I'm still waiting on that visit, which is scheduled for a week from now. I'm very disappointed in this horrible service.

Besides the fact that Whirlpool apparently can't provide timely warranty support for this product, the fact that I've had two major problems with the unit in the first 2 months of my ownership doesn't bode well for its longevity. I would not recommend this product until they've shaken the bugs out.
How long have you owned it:
One-to-three months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
