About - Whirlpool WED4900X[W]

The Whirlpool WED4900X[W] is part of the clothes dryer test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric dryer models like the WED4900X[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Drying performance:
This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.

Capacity:
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 6 to 8.0 cu. ft.

Convenience:
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.

Worst dryer I ever had!

Comment:
WE had it less than a year and had to replace the timer and start relax. Then five months later it needed a new motor. Now 4 months later it needs a NEW motor. We tried to work with Whirlpool but they have a 3 strikes out rule...so no luck. Went out and bought a different brand.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
Only had it one day and it stopped working! The dealer we bought it from is already trying to back out of the warranty claiming our venting was not correct even though they checked it and there was nothing wrong (other than us not buying their duct). Our prior whirlpool used the exact same venting and lasted 16 years. They are coming to fix it on Monday so hopefully, it will be repaired and no further problems. However, it makes you wonder just how reliable the product it is when it quits on the first day.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
