The Whirlpool Cabrio WGD5800BW is part of the clothes dryer
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, gas dryer
models like the Cabrio WGD5800BW are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 6 to 8.0 cu. ft.
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.
The following models have the same ratings as Whirlpool Cabrio WGD5800BW.
Features and specs may vary
The Ratings applied to untested model Whirlpool Cabrio WGD5500BW come from our tests of model Whirlpool Cabrio WGD5800BW, which in our judgment is enough alike in its performance, features, and specs that our test results apply to both. 0

Porcelain top A porcelain top resists scratching better than a painted one but generally adds to a dryer's cost. Painted tops, far more common, are often quite durable with normal use.
Drying rack The rack attaches inside the drum to keep items such as sneakers or sweaters from tumbling.
Custom programs This feature allows you to save your favorite settings.
Steam option Generally, a water hook-up is required with this feature. In this cycle, a small amount of water is sprayed into the drum while tumbling with heat. It helps to reduce wrinkles and odors, but is intended only for a few garments at a time.
I'm not a big fan on too many choices, when it comes to laundry options. But in this case, color me impressed. The electronic controls are intuitive and do what is required. I've only used it briefly, but a king size comforter was the real test for me. I expected dryer magic, letting the dryer do all the work, never pulling the article out for a rearrange like I knew I should. So yes, it did not dry every nook and cranny, so I did the rearrange and it was done and done. The everyday loads went through a Normal cycle and were thoroughly dry. The Wrinkle prevent mode is very handy, and able to be set for either 60 or 150 minutes, so anyone can finish the ball game without worries. I installed it myself with no issues. The Use & Care booklet is clean and covers all the topics I'll need for a long and happy laundry life.

2 weeks old, does not dry
Plastic Window In Door
Dryer malfunctioning at less than three weeks old. First few loads were light duty and small. No problem. Then I placed a large load of spin dryed clothes in dryer. Dryer turns off before completely drying load. Did this same thing mulitple times with different items, different size loads, trying every single setting. Initially thought user error, but diffently is not true as this point. One single sock slightly damp took three different settings and multiple minutes to dry. Sears repair tech on the way. I would like to return this dryer to Sears. Loss of faith in product at only three weeks old.
