About - Seventh Generation Powder

The Seventh Generation Powder is part of the dishwasher detergent test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, dishwasher detergent models like the Powder are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Type:
Liquids and powders generally pour easily; gels have a thicker consistency than liquids. Tablets are a dry, solid premeasured amount of detergent. Pacs have a dissolvable outer package containing a premeasured amount of liquid, gel, or powder. A dispenser product uses a cartridge that automatically dispenses a charge of detergent for 12 loads of dishes.

Size:
Indicates either the net contents in ounces or the number of wash cycles you get from a tablet, pac, or dispenser product.

Cleans dishes:
Gauges how well a detergent removed a caked-on puree of foods from glass dishes.

Pros
Chlorine Free
Cons

Tea coffee stains
Best Uses
Comment:
Over 2 years of regular use, 1-2 loads per week, I alternate between 7th Generation and Cascade to prevent build up of tea stains on coffee mugs, and residue on pots. I used to use solely 7th Generation with monthly hand scrubbings to remove tea stains and pot residue, and to keep stainless steel utensils shiny. Am currently trying out Ecover and BioKleen.

Comment:
I rinse my dishes fairly well before putting them in the dishwasher. I don't use the 'heat' setting for drying - I open the dishwasher after the wash cycle and allow the dishes to air-dry. When I do use the dw drying cycle, it is with No Heat. We do not have soft water. I use Jet Dry only during the wash cycle. I do like this dishwashing detergent.
