I am a quilter and bag-maker, and I iron shirts and misc. clothing for my family. I use an iron frequently - at least 5x per week. I thought this iron would be wonderful at first as it produced a prodigious amount of steam, but within the first 3 months, it also occasionally spit little brown gunk (which stains) onto the item I was ironing. It would always do it if I refilled the reservoir without cooling the iron first - an annoyance, but possible to work around. Gradually, it has become more random in its spittings, and, this past week the steam option has become very feeble. Today I decided to clean the sole plate (using Iron Off) and do a vinegar/water cleanse. Unfortunately, neither of these things has worked well at all, and the steaming is still minimal. I've had it!! New iron time.

Leaks water
Auto Shut Off Large Base
Heats Quickly
Irons Smooth
Leaks Water
Best Uses
Great iron EXCEPT---- water leaks out of it at fill spout, even when it is set up in a vertical position, and makes a mess on clothes and ironing board. I am an everyday ironer and thought I have found the greatest iron, but will not purchase again because of leaking issues.

I didn't think it was possible to get excited about an iron, much less wanting to return the favor of writing a review about one.
Since my High School home-ec and college days, I've been through plenty of Bargain Store irons, either from use, or the last one fell when I accidentally bumped the board. So I researched many reviews and chose this T-Fal.
WOW! It was definitely worth it to move up in price range. Truly an example of, You get what you pay for. I wouldn't compromise on this type of purchase again.
My style of ironing is several items at a time because I don't have room to have the board set up all the time. We have mostly cotton/blend fabrics, so I primarily use the high setting.
The weight of this iron by itself is appropriate for the job (not too heavy nor too light) and does not have to depend on the reservoir being full to press well. I'm surprised at how quickly it heats.
The non-stick soleplate is what sets this iron apart from the others and is by far the best feature. It Really does glide very nicely for efficiency. (one reviewer pointed out, why Wouldn't cookware technology work on an iron?)
Another difference from my previous iron is that the T-Fal heats Evenly all the way to the tip. I can detail the patches, around them; collar tips and pocket flaps of my husband's uniforms noticeably smoother than before. Steam output is good and makes crisp pant creases.
My previous iron's retractable cord was a nice feature, but the T-Fal's large triangle base makes it confidently stable. For storage, just wrap the cord around the base with its attached clip.
Some reviews say the fill line is hard to see because it's just a molded body-colored ridge, so I marked it with a black marker for contrast. Even though the instruction drawings indicate to use regular tap water, I still use distilled. I don't empty between uses and haven't noticed any problems.
I can't believe what a difference a better made product as mundane as an iron makes. This T-Fal is truly so pleasant that I actually look forward to Not procrastinating with the ironing pile anymore.
