I hate to clean, I hate a dirty house!! My house has hardwood with area rugs; the basement is concrete. We regularly use a wood stove and have a Border Collie and a cat. This is the second Miele I have owned. I bought the smaller, cheaper version, owned it for several years, then traded it in for this version. I had owned Kenmores before based on CR recommendation but never found them to last well. One Miele outlasts 2 - 3 Kenmores. Miele's suction is quite impressive, light enough to pick up and carry to vacuum high ceiling corners, steps, and furniture. It's light enough to use to dust (we actually do.) It has many settings to vary the suction and the rug attachment is able to be adjusted to account for rug fringe or weight. It doesn't kick out dust (or ash) from behind. The repair man showed me the problem with the Kenmore vacs - they have power cords inside the hoses that get broken and can't be fixed because of access. Even tho the Kenmores are cheaper, that's the problem - they're cheaper! The bags for the Miele are more expensive but last a long time. Two boxes last me 8-12 mos. Miele can be found for less than what CR advertises. The Miele is practically indestructable. I can't imagine trying to use another brand!

Comment:
This is our second Miele.
Loved our Carina. Like our Castillo. Hate the plastic parts on the hoses and/or nozzle that have snapped on both.
Poor quality of material or poorly designed for the use. Very disappointing for an otherwise quality product - would hesitate to recommend or buy again.

This is a great vacuum .Don't forget vacuums are just like cars they need TLC (services)& care
this is a really quality vacuum as far as durability and filtering dust ,dust mites and oder from pet dander (peeuuu) smell.I had $600.00 kenmore and hoover that consumer report recomanded let me tell you wate a pice junk kenmore lasted 2.5 years and my brother hoover$300, 3years and it sounded like a jet in a take off.also always get a vacuum w/a bag it is beter as far as filtering dust and cheaper to maintain.Another advice do not get this vacuum from internet, go to your local dealer you will get it for beter price and BETER SERVICE.
trust me when it come to service you need them
every time i whent to Seares i got nothing
and runaround ad waeted my time and they need a 75.00 up front to let me know whats rung with my vacuum.
