Still need a traditional vacuum cleaner.
Best Uses
My apartment is not ideal for the Roomba: tile mixed with carpet, multiple rugs, plently of standing items on the floor that it gets tangled up with... But it does clean decently. My recommendation is that if your dwelling is completely flat without changes in flooring or items laying around, then it would work great. I still find I need to pull out the upright to get a full clean, though it has allowed me to space out how often I do it. If you have an extra $400+ laying around then buy it, otherwise spend the 30-45 minutes a week and do it with a traditional type.

My home is 1600 sq ft, all on one level, with Brazilian cherrywood floors and a few area rugs. I have a young pug, who sheds a reasonable amount, so I loved the idea of an automatic vacuum cleaner that could run on a daily schedule. However, the Roomba 760 does not perform well-enough. It does better on the hardwood, where it normally can pick everything up. The cons here are that I have to prep the house before using it, because it moves too quickly and will crash into things on the floor like vases, fireplace tools, and the legs of more-delicate furniture. In addition, I have to move power cords for things like floor lamps, because the Roomba will get stuck on them and won't let go. I could put up with that for the convenience of a clean house on a daily basis, but the bigger problem is with the area rugs, where the Roomba just won't pick up half of the dog hair. I have even tried the spot clean mode on the Roomba, where it focuses on cleaning only a small area (about a 3 foot diameter circle), but even in this mode, the Roomba leaves the same dog hair behind. If I didn't have a dog, I would think that this vacuum is amazing, but because I do, I end up still wanting to vacuum manually every day or every other day. In fact, I am on this website now to research the best manual vacuum to use instead of the Roomba.

Daily maintenance
I had been interested in buying one for a few years and finally decided to go for it. Wish I had made this purchase when I first became interested in obtaining a Roomba, it's great! I love that it cleans under the kitchen table and around the chairs, picking up all of the crumbs. A must for anyone who simply must have clean floors. Our home is a colonial, and I'm considering purchasing another Roomba for the bedroom area.
