About This Brand
Hoover introduced its first vacuum in 1907 and has established itself as one of the most recognizable brands in America. More recently, Hoover was bought from Whirlpool by TTI Floor Care, the owners of Dirt Devil. Hoover sells a wide variety of uprights at mass-market retailers, with models ranging from as little as $50 to $300. It also makes hand and stick vacuums, canister models (about $80 to $300), deep cleaners, central vacuums, bare-floor cleaners, and an outdoor sweeper, though the company is best known for its uprights.

CR needs to hire my dog when they test vacuums. I bought this primarily based on the excellent rating for pet hair, but I can't get up all the dog hair. Our dog is half Great Pyrenees probably mixed with some other shaggy breed. (Collie? Golden Retriever?) I have to vacuum the hardwood floors every day to keep up with his shedding, so I wanted a lightweight stick vac that would be easier to use than a standard upright. It does work well on hardwood floors in general - easy to use, maneuvers well - but eventually the dog hair starts to accumulate around the edges of the base of the vacuum. After awhile I just pull it off by hand. It is still probably more convenient to use with not having to worry about a cord, and with it being lighter than our upright.

Works Great...til Brush Stops After ONE (1) Year!
Easy To Empty
Easy to Use
Brush Quits In 1 Yr
Canister Falls Off Easily
Bought 1st for son in college apartment. Bought 1 for home use shortly thereafter because it worked so well. I am on my 3rd one because after about a year the brushes stopped working. Occasionally, the brushes engage going forward, but only sporadically. Everyone, including my sons and husband love to use it...so it's a winner right there! Several friends and family have bought them after trying mine. The canister that collects dirt doesn't always snap on easily and will sometimes just fall off. Must be careful to make sure it doesn't fall over when leaving standing on its own because it can fall and ruin the catch mechanism that holds dirt canister on, or the place where the unit is joined in the middle vertically. If you use it frequently like me, it really is disposable after a year...and don't expect any help from Hoover if you have problems or it breaks
