About This Brand

Colorful styling, innovative features, and a splashy advertising campaign featuring its namesake owner and designer have helped Dyson quickly become a major player in the U.S. Ranging in price from about $300 to $600, Dyson vacuums have helped increase the average price paid for uprights. Canisters have joined that lineup. Hand vacs are also part of the mix. The brand is available nationwide through major mass merchants such as Target, Best Buy, and Sears.

Dyson took a step back in my opinion. Had a Dyson DC17 for 8 years, and it worked great. It finally died out, and i purchased the 41 model. Expecting great things, because of the past model, i used this for only 3 months and found it to be less than impressive, to the point, where i sent in the 17 model to be repaired and am planning on selling this model in the next garage sale. It works great on hardwood floors, but which vacuum doesn't? When it comes to carpeting, it is just plain bad. Dog hair removal from a product called the animal one would think it does a good job. No it does not. After vacuuming my carpet with the 41 and then used a 18 year old panasonic model, i picked more up with the panasonic model than the 41. Not worth the money, Dyson needs to go back to the 17 model and drop the 41.

I've had this Dyson for over 5 years and I made the expensive investment because of my pets. With 4 indoor dogs (labs) and 6 indoor cats = lots of cleaning!
I haven't treated this machine with kid gloves either, it has been banged around going up and down stairs. It has never failed me, suction is still great and nothing has broken.
Last year I bought one for my 70 year old mother and she loves it.

When new, we were thoroughly impressed! Compared to our Oreck, the Dyson picked up pet hair exceptionally well on both the carpet (berber) and ceramic floors. The canister was easy to clean out and the vacuum was very easy to maneuver.
That is... until 1/2 of the wheel ball broke off. The vacuum still cleaned everything very well, it just became very hard to maneuver. We looked into getting it fixed but found that the closest repair store was 100 miles away in Columbus.
Next... the brush stopped working completely. So now with the exception of suction only cleaning, we're dead in the water...
$600 is a lot of money to spend for something built so cheaply and unreliably. In addition, they use an extremely cheap power cord that is very stiff and tangles quite easily. You would think for $600, they would put a higher quality power cord on it as well.
Very disappointing...
