I have used this vaccum cleanner for two years now. It worked fine the first year, but then it started losing suction and clogging frequently. Once you pull apart the connection of the motor piece from the bag piece to clean a clog, it stops the swivel on the return motion. Which means you have to manually lower the motor part with your foot every singly time you move it forward! Only way to fix it it to bring it in to be serviced (and be without the vaccum for 7 days or more!). Poor engineering... Not worth the price!

Once you break this machine apart to clear a blockage, it will not reset itself. The head will not lower on the return pull. You have to take it in to an Oreck dealer. I returned my first machine thinking I broke it after removing a blockage. Got another, same exact problem. Best thing is ease of use. So light and self propelling. Great for my arthritis. But you will have to remove a blockage and then it's useless. I love it but for this. Looking to replace it.

We purchased this machine for our summer home in June 2013, making this our 4th Oreck vacuum. What a mistake! After owning 3 Oreck XL vacuums which have lasted for over 15 years each, we assumed this machine would meet the same standards--it doesn't. One week after buying it, we had to return it to the store to have the bottom plate replaced. It came with a 5 year warranty with 5 annual checkups at no cost. In the summer of 2014 (after using it for only 4 months), we took it for its annual maintenance and asked them to check the machine because it wasn't cleaning well. They had to replace one of the side brushes. We took it 8-13-15 for it's second annual maintenance; and, it again was not cleaning well, making a lot of noice and a second brush had ccome off, They replaced the brush and had to replace the bottom plate a second time. Overall, it's a poor design. The cord wind up area is poorly designed because one almost has to sit on the floor to wind up the cord. The wheels are so large, that they catch on the bottoms of cabinets and chairs. We are thinking of purchasing a new vacuum to replace this Oreck Magnesium vacuum, which is only 2 years old and is used only 4-5 months out of a year. We would not recommend this machine to anyone! It does not compare in any way to the Oreck XL machines.
