A year ago I bought one of the CR top rated Sears Intuition vacuums, which did an excellent job of cleaning as rated. But it was hard to push, and worse, gave up the ghost entirely 9 months after it was purchased. It went to Sears repair who sent it back and said I should be given a refund under warranty (which is what I asked for in the first place). Hesitant to exchange like for like given the reliability experience, I opted for the Dyson Animal, primarily driven by the 5 year warranty. But this is a great vacuum. Now we aren't dumping sand on our rugs like CR does, but it seems to pick up everything that the Kenmore did, and the design is very intelligent. It's light, maneuverable, filters air extremely well, and has ample suction for both the floors and attachments. You do need to empty the dirt out after every use (the bin is small) but who wants dust mites sitting in the closet anyway? That process is quick, and an easy habit to develop. Not perfect, but a great appliance.

Bought a Dyson to replace my long lasting Hoover. Love the upright use, although this model is on the higher price range end. Have a dog, and found this vacuum picked up dog hair and dust well. You can see what's being picked up in the canister. The real results are evident when shampooing the rug and seeing the water is not nearly as dirty as with the Hoover. Vacuum is light and easy to maneuver .

The hose / wand are not so great. The wand is inside the neck of the upright and not easy to use, also is really rigid and doesn't pick up well in small corners and crevices.

Overall, I like this vacuum a lot and I am probably the last person you would ever think would write a vacuum review.
