Had to write this after seeing poor reviews. I bought this vacuum about 3 years ago and it's running fine. Never had a problem; easy to clean and maintain; easy to empty canister; picks up pet hair and dirt well; never had a plug. Old $250 bagged vacuum was costing big bucks buying new bags and left dog smell all over the house. With our dog we vacuum every 3-4 days and pull up enough hair for a whole new dog. Wish it had a roller off/on switch but not a big deal. There might be vacuums with more features but at ~$90 it's a deal. Just bought the newer version and giving this to my son at college.

I bought this to replace my 13 year old Dyson DC07. I loved the Dyson, however, a piece of plastic finally broke off at the top, so the hose & wand was no longer held in place. I thought why spend $400+ on another Dyson when this cheap Hoover was so recommended by CU. I was wrong! The Hoover is a toy compared to the Dyson. It does a good job on rugs, however, that's all it does well. The cord is way too short. The wand is inadequately long. It took much longer to finish the vacuuming with the Hoover than it took with the Dyson. Also, the Hoover's filters clog after little use. So, I gave up! The Hoover went to my son, and I purchased another (used) Dyson DC07 for $60. I cleaned and replaced the two filters. The result is an awesome vacuum cleaner. I don't know why CU is so down on Dyson. It's a keeper!

The plastic pieces of our Dyson of 6 years wore it and broke. A vacuum that was rated high for pet hair removal, bagless, and easy to use on stairs topped the list of requirements. Given the high ratings of the model by CR and modest price, it seemed like an easy decision. The Hoover worked great our of the box. The second time we used it, the belt slipped off the drive shaft. It is easy to put back on, but the slipping continued. After calling the manufacturer, we tried using a replacement belt that they mailed to us. It also slipped right out of the box. Hoover told us that the belt slippage from the drive shaft was a known issue and to return it to the retail store.
