Comment:
I read the comments before purchasing this unit that the attachment hose was too short. What I didn't expect was that the suction from the too small diameter hose makes the machine tip over and crash into whatever is close to it. I have the bruises on my legs to prove it. I have stopped trying to use the turbo head for pet hair because it get wrapped around the brush spindles and has to be taken apart and cleaned after every use. This will be the last item I purchase from Sears after so many other bad experiences.

Comment:
We are in desperate need of a vacuum cleaner, so I was excited to pick this up at Sears on sale. When I got home, assembled it, and put it to the test...it did great on the floor. But when I used the attachments and hose to clean corners, I discovered the #1 drawback of this vacuum cleaner: the hose length. It is so short as to be useless in many applications. My fault for not checking beforehand, but it is such a serious design flaw that I am really surprised CR didn't mention this in their review.

The hose itself is stiff and doesn't easily maneuver. Putting aside the length (or lack thereof), the hose was a struggle to use just to clean corners. You literally have to drag the vacuum cleaner every inch of the way. Also, our ceilings are high and I literally have to climb onto a chair/stool and hold the vacuum cleaner in one hand to reach the ceiling corners with the other hand. I didn't even bother trying it on the stairs because I didn't want to have to haul the vacuum cleaner every step of the way. (I'm ok with having the hose stretch out for 2-3 stairs and requiring me to move the vacuum cleaner every 2-3 steps, but this hose is so short that you cannot do that.)

I spent more than an hour seeking compatible extension hoses from various vacuum cleaner accessory stores (Sears doesn't sell one for this model) with no luck. The recommended Eureka extension hose received terrible reviews. Surprisingly, when I went to the Eureka site and spoke with their customer support, they said they don't sell one for the Kenmore Elite model.

Sadly, I'm throwing my hands up and will be returning this vacuum cleaner to Sears. Too bad, as it seems great in many other aspects. And seriously - if you're not physically fit, it would be daunting to haul this cleaner up and down stairs when you're vacuuming steps.

If only Sears made an extension hose, I would keep this vacuum in a heartbeat. But alas, they do not and back to the store it goes.
