Comment:
It does a great job on the carpet! However, if you want to use the hose for anything, it better not be very far away. If you want to vacuum a ceiling fan you have to lift the vacuum, which is very heavy to hold up. The hose barely stretches an then pulls the vacuum over! I love the unit for picking up pet hair, but now I need to buy another vacuum so I have one with a functional hose.

Comment:
This is a nice vacuum but compared to the lighter quieter progressive we have I choose the progressive every time. My only complaint which applies to both models is the lack of a place to grab for when vacuuming stairs. This model is quite loud and has a bit of a high pitched whistle. Heavier and picks up the same as the progressive. The hose is also shorter on this model. Picking the unit up by the handle also results in more frequent accidental changes in switch position.
How long have you owned it:
One-to-three months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
My wife and I bought this from a local Sears store after reading CR reviews. Many other vacuums were loaded with gimmicks such as the ability to break the vacuum down into a handheld canister vac, or the like - but we own a golden retriever who is an indoor dog and we really just wanted a vacuum that cleans fast and efficiently.
The salesperson was gracious enough to let us try the vacuum in the store, and after vacuuming a rug with a Shark model we then (somewhat skeptically) used the Kenmore Elite. The brush and suction actually pull you forward, so despite the weight it is easier to push then our previous Hoover Allergy vac that we have at home. The Kenmore quickly and powerfully sucked up extra dirt that was left by the Shark and even the salesperson was caught a little off guard by how well the Kenmore cleaned (he was trying to sell us a Dyson, but we were never really interested in spending that much money to begin with).
We got it home, and after a short assembly (took about 5 minutes) my wife was off and vacuuming the entire house. It does an amazing job on carpet, the best I have ever experienced. Previously, even after a cleaning, within a day it seemed like if I was to lie on the carpet I would again be covered with dog hair. This vacuum does not leave ANY fur behind. It does a good job on tile and hardwood, although it is still easier to just use a Swiffer-type cleaner than to get the vacuum, unwind the cord, plug it in and then reverse when done. Having said that, it certainly did better than we expected it to on the hard surfaces.
Other users have commented on the short accessory hose, and my wife and I would agree - although it seemed long enough and I am concerned if it was longer it would get in the way when using as a regular vacuum. It is also heavy. This isn't a factor when simply vacuuming (like I said, it pulls itself along) or rolling around the house - but if I was going to have to carry it frequently up and down stairs I would reconsider.
The vacuum also has a dirt sensor which is kind of neat and at least gives you something to watch while you are cleaning - I am skeptical about how much of a difference it really makes. If nothing else, it might make it easier to ensure the kids actually vacuum like they are supposed to. :-)
Overall, my wife are beyond impressed - and I have never written a review before so that means something to me. When I was shopping for a vacuum my main concern was that it did what it ultimately was designed for - namely, clean my carpet. This vacuum does that better than any other vacuum I have ever seen or used. Other convenience factors could be improved upon, but only if they don't take away from the incredible cleaning power of this vacuum.
Highly recommend, from both my wife and I.
