About - Electrolux IQ Touch EIFLW50L[IW]

The Electrolux IQ Touch EIFLW50L[IW] is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the IQ Touch EIFLW50L[IW] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.

Comment:
This appliance is a big disappointment. Overengineered is what the second repairman said. The springloaded drawer for the detergent broke twice and pops open so I have to tape it shut. (Why does a drawer need to be pop open? I can pull a drawer) The draining pump also broke and was replaced. Its current problem is that the washer door won't open and the screen says that it is not closed. Repairman said locking mechanism will have to be replaced. I am going back to the basics for my next washer.

Comment:
Our old washer broke in January after about 10 years. I pretty much dislike anything to do with laundry, so to say I was very upset to have to buy a new washer/dryer - well, that was an understatement! It was definitely a blessing in disguise. I never realized the amount of time and energy that I was wasting on laundry until we bought our new Electrolux washer. I LOVE IT!
First of all, it has a very large capacity size. I can do a week's worth of towels or jeans from our family of four in one load! Secondly, it gets clothing clean the first time - no having to re-wash clothing that just wasn't cleaned well. I have also washed bed comforters, and huge, heavy sleeping bags with perfect results. This machine also does a great job washing sweaters and delicates. Have also used the sanitize cycle many times (mainly on towels, sheets, and underwear) Basically, as long as you choose the proper setting for the load, you will be happy.
Another concern with front-loading HE machines is always gunk build-up and foul odor. I'm religious about ONLY using the proper amount of HE Powdered detergent (I use Gain HE) and absolutely no liquid fabric softener. I also leave the door open after I finish a load. So far, no build-up (I just checked the rubber gasket) and no foul odors.
Overall, I'm just thrilled with this machine. The only thing that could make me happier is if it could fold and put away everything for me.

PS - I own the matching dryer and have been very happy with it as well.
