About - Frigidaire Affinity FAFW3801L[W]

The Frigidaire Affinity FAFW3801L[W] is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the Affinity FAFW3801L[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.
About This Brand

Comment:
Every washing in every cycle leaves puddles of water inside the rubber gasket around the door. I didn't notice at first, until mold began to grow under the rubber. Now I must hand-dry it after every use, but the harm is done. Washer smells and has black streaks inside rubber. p.s. your site is as difficult to use as the washer!

Comment:
After a year of use the machine has proven quiet, energy and water saving, and generally quite satisfactory. For the price relative to other front loaders, it's a great value.

A year into ownership a service call was required to clean material out of a pin trap - apparently added to the design to keep foreign material out of the pump. The service tech explained that it was possible for small items to pass through the space between the rotating drum and the back of the wash chamber. The solution is using lingerie bags for small items - a dollar or so apiece, much less expensive than service calls.

Comment:
Really good cheap front loader which does heavy duty work for a family of four. The only issue is the door sags a bit after about 3 years of use and one of the kids broke the soap dispenser off climbing on it but was easy to replace myself.
