Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's
our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on front-loading washing machine
models like the GFWS3500L[ ].
Energy star:
The federal Energy Star program, administered by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, identifies a wide range of home appliances that use 10-50% less energy and water than standard models. These appliances can help you use less energy at home and save money on your utility bills.
Stainless-steel tub:
Tubs constructed of stainless steel are likely to be more durable than plastic or porcelain, and they allow for higher spin speeds. Plastic is the next most durable choice.
Auto temp. control:
This feature automatically mixes hot and cold water to reach the chosen wash temperature (which differs on various makes of washers). It's a good way to compensate for normal variations in tap-water temperature and prevents problems caused by water that's too cold, which keeps detergent from working properly.
Tested Model
The Ratings of GE GFWH2400L[WW] were applied to untested model GE GFWS3500L[ ], which in our judgment is enough alike in its performance, features, and specs that our test results apply to both.
GE is increasing its front-loading offerings and is also adding its "SmartDispense" technology to a new flagship washer due out in July. The GE line now includes $700, $800, $900, and $1,200 models in the GE and GE Profile models.

Comment:
I hate this machine. I have four kids and do a TON of laundry. Everything I was is getting ruined. The clothes are coming out very dingy and everything is stained. It also seems to be very rough on clothes. Within two weeks of using this machine, there was mold growing in my soap dispenser. A service tech came out once and found nothing wrong with it. The GE rep will be out within a week to look at it. I don't need a machine that sings to me when I turn it on. I just want CLEAN clothes!!!
