About - Kenmore 4127[2]

The Kenmore 4127[2] is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the 4127[2] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.

Comment:
I was shocked to learn that my Kenmore HE3 was considered old when I called a repairman to fix a problem. But when we went to stores to consider replacing it we found out by questioning the salesman that most of today's environmentally approved models with competitive prices are pretty well in the same boat. It seems repairman (we had three) find it difficult to repair them and the repairs are costly and sometimes not successful. I for one will not buy one of these anymore (not just Kenmore...any of them). I found online consumer's blogs helpful and the consensus seems to be that Speed Queen is the one and only washing machine that can be counted on to last longer than the 10-12 years salesman state the new machines are designed to last. Because I live in Canada and can't get a Speed Queen here I have found Huebsh is it's Canadian equivalent. So, the reason I contacted Consumers is to suggest that it would be helpful to me to know not only how washing machines stack up in your tests but also HOW LONG THEY MIGHT LAST just as you review cars and what is found after 5 years or 10 years.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
