About - LG WM2250C[W]

The LG WM2250C[W] is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the WM2250C[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.
About This Brand

South Korean company LG was the first to market with steam washers; the company claims its machines provide real steam (created by a steam generator). The latest wrinkle from LG is what it calls the Allergiene cycle. That cycle, says LG, reduces and removes 95 percent of dust mites and pet dander from a load. LG washers range in price from $900 to $1,600.

Comment:
I've had this machine for about 18 months and love using it. My old front loading machine couldn't clean as well as this one, plus this machine has a wonderful hand wash/wool setting I use frequently.

Our house is 60 years old and we do not have any pipe vibrations so this is not an issue for us.

Regarding cleaning the drain pump filter, I've only done this twice since owning the machine and it was not an issue either perhaps because we have soft water here. I do use the tub clean with a special powder about once every two months so this keeps the machine clean and fresh.

Comment:
I've owned this washer for just over 1 year. I wash clothes literally everyday. I did not experience the issues of other reviewers with the hammering pipes. I have a new construction home, and have not had any issues whatsoever with this washer. This is the first front loader I've owned, and I was hesitant to purchase a front loader because I tend to add clothes once the wash cycle has started and was nervous a front loader would not allow this. However, since this LG model uses so little water, it allows you to add laundry even after the wash cycle has begun. MAJOR PLUS!! I have washed everything in this washer from clothes, towels, comforters, rugs, and dog bedding. The clothes always come out clean- I've never needed to re-wash them. We use very thick heavy bamboo fiber towels, and the washer has an effective spin cycle that leaves the clothes barely wet when finished- so they certainly spend less time in the dryer. With bulky items such as heavy rugs, you can certainly hear they are off-balance during the spin cycle. Also, we had this washing machine set up on the second level of our home by the bedrooms. You cannot hear the washer when you are on the same floor. However, during the spin cycle you can hear the washer from the first floor-- it vibrates the house and sounds like a helicopter flying overhead. That said, I did not purchase the optional vibration reduction mat.. so I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not. There are a few added features this machine offers which I love: first, you can save your favorite custom setting. It is easy to program and then you need only touch one button to start your favorite cycle. Second, I love the Speed Wash setting. It takes 21 minutes to wash a load of laundry on this setting. And finally, I love the delay start. I put the laundry in the washer in the evening, and delay the start until an hour before I wake up the next morning. This way, I can wash an additional load of laundry overnight and can simply throw it in the dryer in the morning. Overall, this washer has served us well. It was our first LG appliance purchase and we were a little hesitant. However, we have had no issues.
