About - Maytag Maxima XL MHW7000AW

The Maytag Maxima XL MHW7000AW is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the Maxima XL MHW7000AW are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.

Comment:
This is the best washer I have ever had. My clothes clean up great. It is very quiet. I live in a moble home and I was worried about shakes but I can't even tell it is running. My only negitive comment is the door gasket. Little socks get stuck in it and hair can clog the drain holes.

Comment:
I think that this washer gets the job done, but considering the price, it could definitely be better. Specifically, the cycle times are very long and it could use a rapid wash cycle, and most importantly a hand wash cycle. My previous front load washer had a hand wash cycle that would act like you were actually hand washing... clothes sit in soapy water and are gently agitated (not spun) to wash. There is no hand wash on this machine. You might say that a delicate cycle would suffice, but not in my opinion. The clothes still spin throughout the delicate cycle. I really miss my hand wash cycle, and now I feel like I'm going to have to start actually hand washing in a sink. As for cycle times, they are LONG! They start out long and get even longer because EVERY SINGLE CYCLE goes at least 15-35 minutes longer than the displayed time says it will. Very frustrating. Just tell me the truth from the beginning and I would know what to expect. I get tired of checking on the laundry, expecting it to be done, and there's always more time left. That said, clothes in general seem clean, particularly with power wash (but it takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes for that one!) The very best thing about it is that it is very quiet and essentially zero vibration. I am super impressed as far as that goes. Vibration/noise is much better than my last machine, which is one of the reasons I went with this Maytag. Too bad you can't have everything you want in one washing machine.
