About - Maytag Maxima XL MHW7000AW

The Maytag Maxima XL MHW7000AW is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the Maxima XL MHW7000AW are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.

Comment:
I have had unit only one week and after doing several loads on Normal cycle with warm/hot water I noticed one not clean. I ran 2 more times and figured out that hot water was not being supplied in the normal cycle ONLY. I would have used machine for months without knowing it was not using warm water on the normal cycle when selected. This meant that not enough water was used in the cycle as the cold fed in as programmed but no hot so I noticed hardly any water in the machine. There were no error codes indicating a problem with the processor. It is going to be replaced but I have lost confidence in the reliability of this machine. I am seriously considering returning the machine if possible. On a positive note, the machine was so much better than my previous GE front loader that failed after 6 years and was always out of balance I would love to keep it for the balance and large capacity.

Comment:
Purchased based on CR's highest recommendation a year ago. Wish I could do my own testing in the store for noise purposes. This is not a quiet machine. Noise level does not deserve CR's very good. For example, water pump should be silent. Previous Frigidaire was quieter on spin but also had noisy water pump. Why skimp on these?
With softened water, many extra rinses required to remove soap based on suds seen through window. This is probably trade-off for water efficiency.
Clothes come out clean and well extracted but it takes over two hours for my allergen selection, chosen for better rinsing. Machine program does not allow adjustment. My 7000 model is electronically pre-programmed without a rotary dial selection for advancing passed the wash cycle so you can't move on to rinsing if desired. No vibrations but wish it were quieter and faster.

Comment:
Great washer performance for cleaning. Vibration is virtually non existent. The only issue is when you add soap it dribbles into machine before you start it. You need to close door before adding the soap. Other than that, this is the best ever!

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
