Auto temp. control This feature automatically mixes hot and cold water to reach the chosen wash temperature (which differs on various makes of washers). It's a good way to compensate for normal variations in tap-water temperature and prevents problems caused by water that's too cold, which keeps detergent from working properly.

This is a horrible product, and I was an idiot to rely on the Maytag name without looking at CR. Here are the problems: 1) design is poor because socks and underwear can get stuck in the sealing gasket channel; 2) bleach can be distributed in the NEXT load, because the reservoir won't empty out; 3) I've had at least 4 shirts chewed up in past 3 months, and I don't overfill the tub; and 4) the coup de grace is that the rubber gasket itself is now disintegrating, leaving a dusty film on all clothes washed. This is a piece of junk. The good news? I'm having an LG delivered tomorrow, and this thing -- still under warranty -- will go to the junk heap, where it belongs.
