Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on front-loading washing machine models like the Performance Series 2000 MHWE201Y[ ].

Energy star:
The federal Energy Star program, administered by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, identifies a wide range of home appliances that use 10-50% less energy and water than standard models. These appliances can help you use less energy at home and save money on your utility bills.

Stainless-steel tub:
Tubs constructed of stainless steel are likely to be more durable than plastic or porcelain, and they allow for higher spin speeds. Plastic is the next most durable choice.

Our washer is going on 3 years now. We bought the washer/dryer set. We bought them because of the quality brand name and the pair was priced well. It started leaking just after the warrantee was up. The filter is a pain to get to in order to clean it. then a few months ago it started tearing some of our clothes. I assume an item gets caught on something and the spin cycle spins it around until it rips a hole into the item. Last week, water started gushing out. We have 4 kids and use the washer daily but I expected longer life out of this machine. Repair cost is starting at $300 that's if they fix it on the first try

I was incredibly happy with this machine. The sales person kept trying to push me to different models that are higher up the washer food chain, but I was satisfied that I did not need anything fancy.

Even despite that, this machine still has a ton of wash cycles. The Powerwash cycle has been a god send when it comes to getting my sons Motocross gear clean. Sure its a long cycle, but I'm fine with that considering it actually works!

The only downside is that I find the machine a little loud when it does its spin cycle, although its not as bad as others I have owned, and considering that it gets the clothes incredibly dry and only lasts a couple of minutes, I am ok with the little bit of noise.

Well worth the money for a truly reliable machine

Comment:
A great machine mostly, except for the internal computer controls. If your water pressure is such that the tub doesn't fill up in the allowed time, it shuts down the machine and pumps the water out. (I trick it now by pouring a pot of water in the tub first). It seems nothing can be done about the problem except to clean the intake hose screens (which I have done) or raise the water pressure.
Otherwise, it has performed very well and been 100% reliable.
