About - LG WT5070C[W]

The LG WT5070C[W] is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, top-loading washing machine models like the WT5070C[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.
About This Brand

South Korean company LG was the first to market with steam washers; the company claims its machines provide real steam (created by a steam generator). The latest wrinkle from LG is what it calls the Allergiene cycle. That cycle, says LG, reduces and removes 95 percent of dust mites and pet dander from a load. LG washers range in price from $900 to $1,600.

Comment:
Once you learn how to use it, it's great! Caution though, if you mix loads of different types (such as cotton plus towels/linens) then you must select towels/bulky or it won't use enough water. Took us a week to figure that out. Either use the bulky or towel setting all the time, or don't mix loads and you're fine.
Love the shorter cycle length, large capacity and quiet!

Comment:
Was skeptical of this machine due to all the negative ratings but ended up purchasing because of price/ value and other machines had lower ratings.
We have had it for over 8 months of use and have had no problems with it.
It has handled big bulky items and delicate cloths equally as well.
We are extremely pleased with the performance and features.
Does it occasionally get unbalanced? Yes but mostly with heavy bedding but rarely.

Comment:
The machine does move around a lot during spin although it hasn't stopped due to an unbalanced load yet. Does not work well on heavily soiled clothing. It definitely uses massive amounts of water compared to my previous front loader, which cleaned very well. The cycles seem excessively long considering the poor cleaning results.
How long have you owned it:
A month or less
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
