About - LG WT5680HVA

The LG WT5680HVA is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, top-loading washing machine models like the WT5680HVA are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.
About This Brand

South Korean company LG was the first to market with steam washers; the company claims its machines provide real steam (created by a steam generator). The latest wrinkle from LG is what it calls the Allergiene cycle. That cycle, says LG, reduces and removes 95 percent of dust mites and pet dander from a load. LG washers range in price from $900 to $1,600.

Comment:
I found this washing machine to be very finicky with small loads and balancing issues from the moment I brought it home. If you try to wash a small load you have to be careful to place everything just right or a UE Code will display and the washer will stop during the spin cycle and then you have to re-position the clothes and start again. As time goes on this gets more and more frequent and starts happening with larger and larger loads until finally it breaks completely and you start getting the LE code and the machine needs a major repair. I think there is a fundamental problem with LGs smart balancing system which gives these washing machines a short life span. My washer stopped working at two years which is obviously pretty disappointing. I was very careful to use the right detergent and to load the machine properly and mine still only lasted two years, so buyer beware.

Comment:
This washer never worked from day one! LG even sent a tech out to try and fix it with new parts and he couldn't!! I had to take it back to get a refund. And if I hadn't been watching it closely during the first time I ran it, I wouldn't have known it wasn't working right! Who even stands there to closely watch their washing machines to make sure they are working good?? If I hadn't, I would've dried still dirty , soapy clothes and put them in my closet and then went to put them on at a later date and found out they had not been cleaned at all! what a non cleaning piece of junk. Don't buy this, do your self a favor and buy a speed queen top loader with an agitator and you'll be much happier!!
