About - Whirlpool Cabrio WTW5500X[W]

The Whirlpool Cabrio WTW5500X[W] is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, top-loading washing machine models like the Cabrio WTW5500X[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.

I use the washer for my household family laundry. It is only my husband and I now and not the heavy duty loads I used to wash in my Maytag that I had for 25 years with the traditional agitator. I was very pleased with the old one and it got my clothes really clean, even my husband's greasy work clothes from his job. Now this one can't even get a little loose dirt off unless I wash it twice and still isn't as clean as they should be. Also there are dry areas on the clothes and I figure if they don't get wet, how are they getting clean. I've only owned it for 2 years and the computer broke down and I am waiting almost a week to get it repaired and have to go to the laundramat, not what I expected.

Not As A Washer
This thing is ok if you use it for small loads. Basin needs to fill with more water for a complete wash. I have a large family and we use this machine alot. I am afraid that you guys dropped the ball on this one.

Scrap metal
This machine is run by a CPU that carefully measures the amount of water to be used, probably with an eye-dropper. No kidding - the clothes barely get wet, and they certainly do not get clean. Extra rinses are then required to get the soap out. Because the clothes are in a damp pile in the bottom of the basin, they get beat to smithereens by the agitator at the bottom, leading to premature clothing wear.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
