About - Whirlpool Cabrio WTW8500BW

The Whirlpool Cabrio WTW8500BW is a top-loading washing machine available from Whirlpool. The Cabrio WTW8500BW typically costs between $699.99 - $899.99.

Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on top-loading washing machine models like the Cabrio WTW8500BW.

Energy star:
The federal Energy Star program, administered by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, identifies a wide range of home appliances that use 10-50% less energy and water than standard models. These appliances can help you use less energy at home and save money on your utility bills.

Stainless-steel tub:
Tubs constructed of stainless steel are likely to be more durable than plastic or porcelain, and they allow for higher spin speeds. Plastic is the next most durable choice.

Auto temp. control:
This feature automatically mixes hot and cold water to reach the chosen wash temperature (which differs on various makes of washers). It's a good way to compensate for normal variations in tap-water temperature and prevents problems caused by water that's too cold, which keeps detergent from working properly.

Comment:
Have owned it for about 4 years, no trouble to date. The only complaints I have is when washing bulky items, bed blanket, thro rugs etc it you have to rebalance the loads frequently, and chrome finish on the top lid has been chipped (bad design)..... Have been pleased with it to date and would have given higher rating if it was for the chipping of the chrome finish.

Comment:
Consumer Reports dropped the ball again. This washer has known defects with the bearings. Replacement is so expensive, it's better to buy a new machine. Goggle this and you will find many unsatisfied owners of the Whirlpool Cabrio. Ours was only a few years old when the bearings started to go. It cost us $80.00 for a repairman to tell us it wasn't worth it to fix it. DO NOT BUY THIS HIGH TECH PIECE OF JUNK> Our old Whirlpool lasted 20 years. What gives. Well Goodbye Whirlpool. You just lost our business forever.
