About - Whirlpool Cabrio WTW8500BW

The Whirlpool Cabrio WTW8500BW is a top-loading washing machine available from Whirlpool. The Cabrio WTW8500BW typically costs $809.10.

Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on top-loading washing machine models like the Cabrio WTW8500BW.

Energy star:
The federal Energy Star program, administered by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, identifies a wide range of home appliances that use 10-50% less energy and water than standard models. These appliances can help you use less energy at home and save money on your utility bills.

Stainless-steel tub:
Tubs constructed of stainless steel are likely to be more durable than plastic or porcelain, and they allow for higher spin speeds. Plastic is the next most durable choice.

Auto temp. control:
This feature automatically mixes hot and cold water to reach the chosen wash temperature (which differs on various makes of washers). It's a good way to compensate for normal variations in tap-water temperature and prevents problems caused by water that's too cold, which keeps detergent from working properly.

Comment:
Consumer Reports dropped the ball again. This washer has known defects with the bearings. Replacement is so expensive, it's better to buy a new machine. Goggle this and you will find many unsatisfied owners of the Whirlpool Cabrio. Ours was only a few years old when the bearings started to go. It cost us $80.00 for a repairman to tell us it wasn't worth it to fix it. DO NOT BUY THIS HIGH TECH PIECE OF JUNK> Our old Whirlpool lasted 20 years. What gives. Well Goodbye Whirlpool. You just lost our business forever.

Comment:
Elderly family of two, I like to pre soak whites, Can't do that with this washer. Doesn't clean the clothes. Not energy efficient when I have to wash one load twice and still comes out looking and smelling like dirty clothes, and it takes nearly three hours to wash that load of laundry. Very disappointed, I have owned whirlpool all my life. This is by far the worst washer I have ever owned. If I Hadn't paid so much for have it, I would get rid of it and buy a normal aggitator washer... :(

Comment:
We bought the equivalent to this washer in August of 2009 when we moved to a new town. It worked fine up until a couple of weeks ago. At that time an error code started coming up when we tried to run it. We called a local service company who said that the bearings were shot and would need to be replaced, along with a sensor and the main control board. The total cost for parts and labor would have been as much as buying a new washer, so we said no thanks and started looking at wahsers. I would expect a washing machine to last more than 4 years. We called Whirlpool and asked if they would do anything given how young the machine was and their response was too bad, it is out of warranty. I told them that if they were not willing to do anything for us I was never buying another Whirlpool (or Maytag) product again. They didn't care, so we bought an LG washer to replace this.
