Despite its similar styling, the A4 is an all-new car. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, mated to a standard seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The engine is smooth and punchy and the transmission is slick. Handling is nimble and precise, the ride is supple, and the A4 feels tight-as-a-drum solid. The seats are comfortable but the shifter is unintuitive. The interior features a fully digital, configurable instrument panel that can show pertinent information in front of the driver. A new interface is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A new S4 sedan and Allroad wagon will be introduced later in the year. The previous A4 scored a Poor in the IIHS small-overlap crash test. The new one improved to Good.
