The new Allroad is the replacement for the A4 Avant wagon, and provides rugged styling details and extra ground clearance for an SUV-like appearance and light off-road excursions. Agile handling makes it fun to drive and the cabin is quiet and very well finished. A spunky, 211-hp, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, matched with a slick eight-speed automatic transmission, provides decent acceleration and 22 mpg overall, which is competitive with the best small SUVs. As nice as the Allroad is, the Audi Q5 SUV, with the same powertrain, costs less and has more rear-seat room and cargo space, and a greater towing capacity.
