About - Philips Avent DECT SCD510

Interference:
Interference can vary widely depending on the area in which the home is located and what other electronic devices are within the home or are being used by nearby neighbors. When you buy a monitor, choose one that operates on a different frequency from your cordless phone and other wireless devices around your house.

Ease of use:
Ease of Use rates the presence and convenience of features of each device. For video models it also includes the picture quality of the monitor.

Comment:
We have been very pleased with this baby monitor which we purchased with the birth of our fourth child as we needed two since our last child was only 2 and still in a crib. There is absolutely no static on this machine and the range is fantastic. We felt that the maximum volume was a little low when the baby was very small (before 3 months) but her lungs are stronger now and we have no desire to hear every time she turns over in her bed now anyways. We love the talk feature to speak to our 3 year old in the night to remind her it is still sleep time. If we needed another monitor, we would buy this one again. I can't say that for any other monitor we have owned (and we have had 4 others of various brands over the years).

Listening For My Baby
Comment:
We've used the product for over a year now for our first child and have no complaints, which says a lot bc I typically find something in a product to complain about. The range is outstanding, the battery lasts longer than I'd expect, and the sensitivity is excellent. I almost didn't buy this unit bc I heard consistent complaints about its low volume and the need for the baby to shriek before it kicks on. I don't share either concern. The volume is a little low but entirely adequate unless you have a lawnmower running in your living room. As far as the baby needing to make a loud sound before the unit turns on, this is easily avoided by keeping the sensitivity all the way up. We do this and have found the unit to be extremely sensitive and the battery life totally adequate. I'm completely satisfied with this product.

Comment:
I bought one in 2009 and it died, I thought it was fluke, purchased another in 2010 and it died also within the first year. There is a two year warranty, but I've read other reports on the internet that say it is a nightmare to get anywhere with the company...
