About - Evenflo Discovery 5

The Evenflo Discovery 5 is part of the car seat test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, infant car seat models like the Discovery 5 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Crash protection:
Evaluation of a seat’s potential for providing an additional margin of safety in simulated 35mph frontal crashes when compared to the performance of similar models. Evaluation is based on injury criteria measured on standardized child-size dummies, head contact with the back of a simulated front seat, and the car seat’s ability to remain intact during the course of testing.

Ease of use:
Includes the clarity of instructions, installing the seat, adjusting harness positions, placing a child in the seat, securing the harness, and removing the child.

Fit to vehicle LATCH:
A rating of how easy it is to securely and correctly install each seat using the LATCH system in a variety of vehicles and how well the seats fit each vehicle once installed.

Difficult To Adjust
Hard to Install
Poor Construction
Best Uses
Worst investment in a carseat I think I could have made. Ordered it offline because of the cheaper price. Once he arrived and it was time to intall it I found it extremely hard to secure the base and also hard to remove the seat from the base. My baby looks downright uncomfortable in it. It sits on the base at such an incline his poor little head always falls to the side almost touching the handle. Also the plastic feels really cheap and not very durable.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this model because the cost. I'm really regreting now. I had an accident walking down the stairs with my 4 month old and she wouldn't have gotten injured at all if it wasn't for the seat itself. Her head hit the handle and bruised the side of her eye, which shouldn't have happened. She was strapped in with the proper tightness. After we realized, her head could reach the side of handle just sitting buckled in the car. It says it was side impact tested but I don't believe it. It is very difficult to tighten as well. I immediately check with consumer reports to purchase another one.
