About - Graco SafeSeat

The SafeSeat is part of the car seat test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, infant car seat models like the SafeSeat are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Crash protection:

We hired a contract lab to perform crash tests to the government standards as dictated by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213. Crash tests simulate a head-on 30-mph crash with a 22-pound instrumented test dummy representing an average-sized 12-month-old child.

Ease of use:

Includes the clarity of instructions, installing the seat, adjusting harness positions, placing a child in the seat, securing the harness, and removing the child.

Fit to vehicle:

Represents the ease of securely installing the seats in cars with various seat configurations and safety belt designs.

Love this seat for extended Rear Facing

Pros:
Comfortable, Easy to Adjust, Easy to Clean, Easy to install, Safe, Sturdy, Stylish
Cons:
Bulky, Heavy
Best Uses:
Infants, Newborn
Describe Yourself:
Child Care Professional, First Time Parent
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have a 15 month old daughter who is on the smaller side at 16.5 lbs and 30 inches. This seat can be used up to 30 lbs and 32 inches. We are still using this seat comfortably.

We were in a front end accident 6 months ago and our daughter didn't have a scratch. The paramedics said that this seat kept her safe. I agree! We had it replaced and purchased another SafeSeat.

The American Academy of Pediatrics now reccomends babies be kept rear facing until they hit 2 years old or reach 35 lbs. This seat is letting us keep her rear facing longer without having to purchase another seat just yet.

We have a Ford Escape and Chevy Cavalier. This seats fits comfortably in the back of each car and the base is a breeze to install. The seat is on the heavy side, but it is a solid seat and I feel comfortable with my daughter in it.

Good solid seat

Heavy, Large

car seat, Travel system

This is a great seat, especially for large babies - my son was 10 lb at birth, and I think he'd grow out of a regular 20 lb/ 20 inch limit seat by 6 months. On the down side it's large, heavy and almost impossible to carry any distance. It does fit onto my 5 year old Gracco metrolite stroller, so as long as I can get the stroller in the car it's okay. However the large size does mean that (a) we can't put it in the safest middle seat position, since it won't fit next to my older son's booster seat and (b) it only JUST fits behind the driver's seat (with the seat moved forwards a bit more than my husband would prefer) in our Subaru Legacy, which is not a tiny car. People with smaller cars might want to check the fit before they buy.

My son will turn one tomorrow and he still uses this seat. He weighs over 20 lbs. Very good investment!
