Disposable diapers: Features to consider
Fasteners. The type of fastener varies from brand to brand. Most now have Velcro fasteners, which, unlike tape, don't lose their sticking power when they come in contact with baby creams or powders. In our tests, there were no problems with the closures on Pampers Baby Dry and Huggies Supreme, but parents reported more difficulties with the closures on Luvs Ultra. Contoured fit. Many diaper brands have elastic around the waist, legs, and thighs to help prevent leaks.

Lotion. Many diapers have a lotion in the liner that is supposed to protect baby's skin. But keep diaper cream on hand for the inevitable outbreaks of diaper rash.

Stretch sides. These sides help the diaper do a better job of molding to each baby's contours, which can help stop leaks. Diapers with stretch sides may be more comfortable, too.

Ultra-absorbent core. Many diapers have materials in the crotch padding that enhances absorbency.
