About - Maclaren Volo

The Maclaren Volo is part of the stroller test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, traditional stroller models like the Volo are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Ease of use:
Ease of use is based primarily on ease of using and adjusting the safety harness, folding and unfolding, adjusting backrest, lifting and carrying, engaging wheel brakes and car seat removal and installation (only for compatible strollers).

Maneuverability:
Maneuverability is assessed by trained staffers on how well the strollers maneuvered S-turns through cones, narrow sections, grass, dirt trails, uphill, downhill and curbs while walking.

Safety:
Safety is assessed by testing for compliance with the most current version of the standard, ASTM F833-11, and stability and usage tests designed by Consumers Union.
About This Brand

Comment:
We bought this stroller back in 2004 with our first baby and now use daily almost seven years later with our second. It still looks great and is very functional. It is so easy to use and is great when travelling with a baby/toddler. We have a chariot which we also love but wouldn't trade my McLaren for any other umbrella stroller.

Comment:
I bought the Volo for an easy travel stroller after getting delayed at an airport for several hours without one. I went with the Volo because I am tall (5'9) and it was the only umbrella stroller at the store that I didn't have to stoop to push. After using the Volo for over a year, it has served its purpose well, held up to my rough and tumble toddler, and survived countless trips under an airplane.
It does, however, have a couple of flaws. 1.) It flips easily when you have things hanging from the handles. My toddler is under the 50th percentile for weight and in the airport I have had the stroller flip backward with her in it because of the weight of the diaper bag on the back. 2.) Mine has never closed as advertised. The basket underneath is a mesh fabric and it folds just so the mesh blocks the latch from connecting. This is particularly annoying when traveling and trying to quickly fold the stroller at the end of the gangway before boarding a plane.
Although it has held up well, I think I will try something else when it dies.

Comment:
This stroller is nice, light weight, and easy to carry around. I was surprised that it was at the bottom of the ratings. This stroller travels well. I guess the only downside is that there may be more comfortable strollers out there.
