The baby bottom line

With the help of our interactive child-cost calculator, you can project how much it will cost to raise a child up to age 18. The amount you'll spend depends on your income, your marital status, and where you reside. These numbers are based on the most recent "Expenditures on Children by Families" report issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (published in May 2004), and do not include prenatal care, delivery, or the cost of a college education.

The results are based on what similar families at your income level will spend each year of their child's life, and will include a breakdown of several spending categories.
