Consumer Reports Autos Staff BioJIM TRAVERSAssociate Editor, AutosA gearhead for as long as he can remember, Associate Editor Jim Travers spent his formative years living across from an Oldsmobile
dealership in New Jersey, where his highchair vantage point helped him to learn the subtle differences between a Cutlass Supreme
and a mere Cutlass before he could walk. It's been downhill ever since.
Jim has written for Automobile, MPH, and Corvette Fever magazines; The Miami Herald and various other newspapers; and Web
sites. He has also worked as a kayak sales rep and instructor, a truck driver, and an innkeeper on Martha's Vineyard. To the
best of his knowledge, he is the only member of the CR Autos editorial team with track experience driving a competition school
bus. He has owned some 70-odd cars--some odder than others.
Jim received his higher education at Goddard College, a small arts school in Vermont where he majored in journalism and edited
the college paper. He lives in a 150-year-old New York house with two big, furry dogs and Kristin, his patient wife of 20
years.
